(C02) Carbon Dioxide - in a Variety of Sizes

Putting the Fizz in all the right places with  Carbon Dioxide 

• Carbonation of soft drinks, lemonade, soda, fruit juices
• Carbonation of beer (getting this just right will make all the difference)
• Recharging of natural mineral waters with carbon dioxide
• Conservation of wine, unfermented grape juice and various fruit juices
• Accelerating the growth of farm produce as an atmosphere additive
• Preparation of sodium carbonate, alkaline bicarbonates, lead carbonate and various organic substances (e.g. salicylic acid)
• Production of paints and varnishes and manufacture of foam rubber
• Tapping of beer and  prevention of oxidation from contact with the air

Potential Hazards and Precautions of Carbon Dioxide

• May cause asphyxiation if CO2 displaces air in a confined space
• Low concentrations increase the breathing rate and cause headache
• CO2 is heavier than air and may accumulate in confined spaces, particularly at floor level or below
• Store and use in a well-ventilated area

First Aid

• Never attempt to rescue a victim of asphyxiation without using a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
• Carbon Dioxide is supplied as either compressed and liquefied or as a low temperature liquid, or in solid form at low temperature (Dry Ice).
